A welcome feature by many Mac users is the new Finder Tabs feature. What this does, is allows you to have several different Finder windows open in the same Finder container (or window).
Once you have created some tabs, you can quickly navigate from one tab to another by pressing the Control + Tab keystroke combination, which will cycle through your open tabs. Or if you prefer, you can simply click on the tab that you wish to view in the Finder window.
Quick Guide: To Create & Use Finder Tabs
- Open a Finder window.
- To add a tab, press the ⌘+ T keystroke combination
Or
Hold down the ⌘ key and click on a folder or drive.
Or
If you already have tabs, click the + symbol on the far top right of the Finder window to add a new tab
Or
Select File > New Tab from the menu
Or
Right-click on a folder or a drive and choose New Tab from the contextual menu. - To switch tabs, click on the tab on top of the Finder window
Or
Cycle through your open tabs using the Control + Tab keystroke combination. - To rearrange tabs, click the tab you want to move and drag it horizontally to the desired new position.
- To move a tab to its own window, click the tab and drag it out of the tab group Or Choose Window > Move Tab to New Window from the menu.
- To merge several open windows into tabs, choose Window > Merge All Windows from the menu.
- To close a tab, press the ⌘ + W keystroke combination
Or
Choose File > Close Tab from the menu
Or
Move your cursor over the tab you want to close and click the x when it appears.
