A Welcome Discovery
Today’s post will mainly be of interest to movie theater goers and cinema buffs. I typically go to the movies at least once of week (sometimes twice) and have tried several different apps to discover movie showtimes. Most of them were practically unusable as you had to sift through screenfuls of annoying ads to get to the main screen and even then, their usefulness was questionable. Then I discovered at app that I already had on both my iPhone and iPad: IMDB.
Not only Movie Info, But Also Showtimes
I’ve used IMDB from time to time to find out movie information from its huge database of films (you can pretty much find info for any movie, no matter how obscure) but never paid much attention the showtimes feature. From the main screen under the In Theaters section is a Showtimes & Tickets feature. Tapping on the link displays all movies that are playing close you to (you can modify what the app considers close to you* by tapping on the button with your city’s name and selecting the distance that you want as local).
What’s Playing at Theaters Close To You?
Tapping on the Theaters tab shows a list of all theaters that are near you. Tap on a specific theater name to display all movies and showtimes for that theater. Do you have a favorite cinema? If so, click the heart icon to the left of the cinema’s name to add it to your favorites list. This can be helpful if you live in an area where there are a lot of theaters.
Trailers and Extensive Information
Tapping on the name of a movie displays extensive information about the film including director, writer, cast, crew, critic reviews, user reviews, movie quotes, trivia, storyline, date released, news about the film, and more. As an added bonus, you can view trailers for many movies right from the movie page.
All About Your Favorite Actors & Actresses
On the right side of the movie page is the Starring strip, displaying a picture of all of the actors & actresses in the film. Tapping on an image displays detained information about the person, including their filmography, personal details, trivia and more.
An Essential App
The IMDB app has gone from being an app that I’d occasionally consult for movie trivia to being one of my essential iOS apps. It is an excellent app not only for discovering movie information and watching movie trailers, but also for finding out showtimes at your local and/or favorite movie theaters. You can download the IMDB app from the App Store.
Don’t worry if you don’t have an iOS device – they also have a Website.
