In yesterday’s post, we saw how we can use OS X’s built-in Calculator application for conversions, such as temperature, area, volume and more. But there are even more goodies hiding under Calculator’s hood. At first glance, it might appear that the application offers only a basic four-function calculator mode. But there are two other modes available: Scientific Mode, which offers scientific functions (duh!) and Programmer Mode, that includes such functions as hex, octal, and binary notation.
To switch to Scientific Mode, press the ⌘ + 2 keyboard shortcut.
Pressing ⌘ + 3 will switch you to Programmer Mode.
If you prefer to use a mouse rather than your keyboard, you can also switch modes from Calculator’s View Menu.
Quick Guide: To Switch Calculator Modes:
- To switch to Scientific Mode, press the ⌘ + 2 keyboard shortcut
Or
Chose View > Scientific from the menu. - To switch to Programmer Mode, press the ⌘ + 3 keyboard shortcut
Or
Chose View > Programmerfrom the menu. - Press the ⌘ + 1 keyboard shortcut to return back to basic mode.
