I have tried a variety of reminder apps over the years, all of them failing for me in one way or another. But awhile back, I stumbled upon Due and almost immediately fell in love with it. It has become one of my most-used reminder applications and it found a well-deserved spot on my home screen.
First off, it’s quick and easy to set reminders, with an easy-to-use time wheel as well as preset times that you can use as a starting point. It also supports repeating reminders and once a reminder is done, it is stored in the Logbook area, from where you can recycle the reminder – that is to say, you can quickly use that reminder again with a different date, should the need arise.
My favorite feature though is the persistent reminder feature. The problem I had with other applications, is that the reminder would pop up on my screen, I’d give it a swipe and that would be it. Poof – it’d be gone. I’d forget about the reminder and the task would end up not getting done. With the Due app however, the app persistently reminds you every minute (you can change this interval if you want) until you open the app and either mark it as complete or reschedule it.
Speaking of rescheduling reminders, it couldn’t be easier. For instance, last week I was nearing the end of a movie when the Due app reminded me that it was time to take out the recycle. I then hit the 10 minute reschedule button five times until 50 minutes was displayed and then went back to my movie. Fifty minutes later, the app reminded me again – and this time, I did the task. Options for rescheduling include intervals of 10 minutes, 60 minutes or 24 hours.
Due also has a timer area where you can set and store multiple timers.
Another favorite feature of the app is the ability to send reminders to others. If you swipe a reminder, a screen displays allowing you to share that reminder with someone via email or text message. Other options include tweeting the reminder as well as creating a calendar event from it.
Due also is available as a Mac app and can sync with either Dropbox or iCloud. Getting both the iOS and Mac versions ensures that your reminders are in sync among all of your devices. The iOS app costs $4.99 and the Mac version costs $9.99 – well worth it, in my humble opinion.
The Due App certainly has been a game-changer for me and has quickly become one of my favorite applications.
