One of my most used applications is a handy little utility called Default Folder X. I actually received this application as part of a Mac bundle of apps — before then, I hadn’t even heard of it. Since I’ve discovered it, it has become an important part of my workflow.
It installs as a preference pane and what it does, is allows you to assign keyboard shortcuts to all of your favorite folders which you can then quickly access from any Save or Open dialog box. This is especially handy if you save items often to several different folders. For instance, if I want to open a text document from the Proposal folder in Dropbox, I open TextEdit and then from the Open dialog box, press: Ctrl + 2. The dialog then switches to the Proposals folder. I find that this saves me an enormous amount of time each day.
Additionally, you can create a list of favorite folders that you can access from any Open or Save dialog box as well as jump to any folders that you recently visited. You can even switch to any open Finder windows with the click of a button.
If you spend a good amount of time of file and folder management, Default Folder X might be worth a look. You can check it out HERE.
