A relatively new feature in Spotlight is the ability to display a preview of an item in your search list. Move your mouse pointer over any item in the search list. When you do so, a small box appears on the left side of the search list, displaying a preview of the selected item. What it does not do, however, is display the path of the item; that is to say, it does not tell us where the item is located.
To find out where an item in a Spotlight search is located, move your cursor over the item and press the ⌘ + I keystroke combination. This will open the Get Info window. The path to the file is displayed in the Where: area under the General panel.
To Display where a Spotlight Search Item is Located
- Click in the Spotlight window (Press ⌘ + Spacebar) and type in the keywords for your search.
- Move your mouse cursor over the item in the list that you wish to preview. A small preview appears on the left side of the list.
- Move your mouse pointer over the preview and then press the ⌘ + I keyboard combination to display the Get Info window.
