After I installed Lion, my Macbook Pro slowed to a crawl. I spent a good majority of my time watching icons bounce endlessly in the Dock, forcing frozen application to quit and cursing the constant appearance of the “beach ball of death.”
For a moment, I feared that I would have to reinstall Lion or worse yet, downgrade to Snow Leopard. But I decided to try on thing first – repair my Hard Drive and Permissions. Even though there were no errors found after running the hard drive repair utility, doing so fixed all of my problems. In fact, I would say that Lion now runs faster than Snow Leopard did.
What to do:
- Restart your computer and hold down the Command-R keystroke combination during the process (you can also hold down the Option key and then click Recover).
- From the OS X Utilities menu, choose “Disk Utility”
- Select the drive you want to repair in the left pane.
- Click Repair Disk.
- When Repair Disk is finished, click the Repair Disk Permissions button.
- When Repair Disk Permissions is finished, click the Apple on the menu and then choose Restart.
Hopefully, your Lion install will now be roaring instead of mewing.
