In order to get the most out of time management, many folks embrace the Pomodoro Technique, in which you take about a 5 minute break from your current task every 25 minutes to stretch, get some fresh are, stand up, take a short walk, etc. – and after every 4 breaks, you take a longer break.
There are several timer apps that can help you accomplish this. On of my personal favorites is Coffee Break, by iLifeTouch & Co. I tend to spend long stretches of time at the computer without taking breaks. What Coffee Break does, is allow me to schedule a break for a set interval – I use the recommended 25 minutes. Once I approach the 25 minute mark, a countdown clock appears and then my computer screen darkens and stays that way all during the “break interval” that I specified (you specify how long you want your break to be). When your break is over, the screen lights up and you are back in business.
In addition to setting a break timer, you can also schedule up to 5 additional alarms throughout the day. This is an excellent way to remind you of a doctor’s appointment, to study, to practice playing a musical instrument or anything else that occurs as a specified time.
From the Preferences pane, you can choose the countdown sound, set when the countdown begins as well as how much (if at all) you want your computer screen to darken.
Overall, I find Coffee Break to be an excellent and flexible productivity app. If you tend to forget to take a break from your computer screen or need reminders of appointments or activities during the day, then you might want to check out Coffee Break. By the way, it’s only $0.99
